Mayerthorpe and District REA Ltd. is a member-owned rural electric cooperative with deep roots in the agricultural community of Lac Ste. Anne County. Decades ago, a group of forward-thinking farmers in the Mayerthorpe area took matters into their own hands, clearing bush, setting poles, and stringing wire to bring electricity to rural properties that larger power companies had passed over. That pioneering spirit lives on today in a financially stable co-op that operates at cost for its members, not for profit.

As a member of the REA, local landowners and farm operators have a real voice in how their cooperative is managed, including a vote at the annual AGM. The REA works in partnership with FortisAlberta as its service provider, carefully overseeing all new connections and upgrades to ensure members’ best interests are protected.
