The Athabasca Watershed Council (AWC) is a collaborative, multi-stakeholder organization dedicated to the sustainable management of the Athabasca River Basin’s water resources. Comprising members from government agencies, Indigenous communities, industry sectors, environmental groups, and the general public, the AWC works to ensure the health and resilience of the Athabasca watershed through research, education, and conservation initiatives.

Focused on addressing the challenges facing the watershed, including water quality, habitat protection, and climate change impacts, the AWC engages in a variety of activities. These include conducting scientific studies, developing watershed management plans, facilitating community engagement and stewardship programs, and advocating for policies that support water conservation and sustainable use.

The AWC’s efforts are aimed at preserving the watershed’s ecological integrity while balancing the needs of the communities and industries that rely on its resources. By fostering dialogue and cooperation among stakeholders, the AWC seeks to create a shared vision for the watershed’s future, ensuring it remains a vibrant and vital natural asset for generations to come.
