George Pegg Botanic Garden

A Living Piece of Alberta’s Agricultural Heritage in Lac Ste. Anne County

Nestled 2.5 km north of Glenevis off Highway 43, the George Pegg Botanic Garden is a designated Alberta Provincial Historic Resource and one of Lac Ste. Anne County’s most cherished public treasures. The original Pegg family homestead, established in 1913, is home to a remarkable plant collector’s garden cultivated by pioneer botanist George Pegg, who made significant contributions to the botanical record of Alberta. The 12.6-acre site features historic farmstead buildings, a prime boreal mixed-wood forest, and a garden teeming with rare and exotic plant species that are unique in the province.

Managed by the volunteer-driven George Pegg Botanic Garden Society, the garden is open to the public each summer with free admission. Visitors can enjoy guided tours of the 1930s log home, nature walks, scavenger hunts, and lawn games. Each August the garden comes alive during Alberta Open Farm Days and hosts its beloved Annual Art in the Garden Outdoor Show and Sale, connecting local artists and rural neighbours in a truly special setting. The Garden also welcomes private events such as weddings, family reunions, and photography sessions in its naturally stunning landscape.
